I have been wanting a set of collet chucks and amazom has the psi brand for just a little over 90.00,,and I have found a collet chuck body with a #2 morse taper on e bay,,of course I would have to buy the chucks to go in it,,but which would seem like the best way to go,,,buying the psi set or going with buying the chuck body and then just buying the chuck inserts,,and can anyone tell me a good place to buy the inserts,,providing I go that route,,thank you

If you go with a MT chuck go for the larger ER collet ER40. The ER40 collets have up to a 1" holding capacity.

For pen making the screw on is the best, but for anything and everything about turning the bigger holding sizes can make things easier. Chucks made for wood lathes do not have the precision of the chucks for metal lathes, but using a collet chuck fixes that problem.

I have Morris taper collet chucks for both my wood and metal lathes. Though they are through chucks they are through and threaded for a draw-bar. I use the collet chuck from PSI.

My MT2 ER32 collet Chuck has a 2" depth and is threaded for a 3/8th" draw bar. If I used the Mt Chuck in the head stock I would definitely use a draw bar with it. My Beall ER32 Chuck lets me hold any length piece that has a 20mm diameter or less. But the through hole on my Jet mini is approximately .665 o.d or 17mm so .665 o.d. is the largest diameter that allows me to take advantage of the through hole the thread mount Beall Chuck provides. ( plenty big for any pens I turn). Hope that makes sense.

The through hole on the Beall collet Chuck is especially handy when tapping threads or drilling blanks because the work piece can be held flush with the collet face virtually eliminating runout.

So, I've never used a collet chuck, but will be buying one soon. I see it makes sense to buy the chuck by itself then metric collets.

Problem is cant find the chuck itself on amazon or ebay searching for er32 collet chuck

should i enter another term to find the chuck itself?
