Been quite a bit of discussion on here lately about collet chucks and collets so it reminded I have been going to make something to keep my set of collets in. Being I use to build cigar box guitars, I have a collection of cigar boxes around. I decided one would work great for the collets.

I've been thinking about making something for mine too but I'm sure it won't look that fancy!

Paul, that is an excellent idea! I have a few wooden cigar boxes and frankly I'm ashamed I didn't think of it. If you don't mind, I'd loike to borrow your idea for my collets.

:eek: What kind of a woodworker are you ??? Showing us a box with 3 empty spaces !!! Better ring Santa. Nice idea, may have to copy something like that. Merry Christmas to all !!!! Jim S

I made a holder and hung it on the wall next to my lathe. Always ready and easy to reach. I know, it has a lot of empty holes. Working on that.

Thanks for the comments. The three empty holes are there just to show the construction. There are two layers of 1/4" plywood, the bottom layer having smaller holes for the smaller ends of the collets. Keeps them in place and they don't rattle around. You will notice all the holes are filled in the last picture.

alamocdc, copy away, I figure that is the greatest of compliments.

Very cool idea. I have seen many stands for the collets but that leaves them exposed to saw dust. This is a much better design.

Yeah, like Joe, I only have four or five... but that is a great idea!
If you have an overabundance of cigar boxes - PM me as I am looking for 4 to 5 just that size. : )
