I had a company come out and put a new spring on and tune my garage door. They said that it would help my garage a lot if I had insulate panles on my door. My door faces west and it gets hot in there during the summer. They offered to cut and install the panels for a price. They said that they just use pink rigid foam and cut it to fit.

Has anybody put in the DIY insulated pannels on hier metal garage door? Does this help with the temp? Where and how much do they cost?
I have a friend who works for Dalton and he told me NOT to buy the insulated panels they sell for their doors.

Go to your local big box store (HD or Lowes) and buy the 4x8 sheets of foam and cut to fit. The "R" factor is a lot higher.

I used Silicone sealer for the panels from Lowes when it is cold outside and I have the furnace on, you can feel no cold when I touch the panels. My shop is 24' x 40', insulated with 12" in the celing and 3.5" on the walls, furnace is a used unit from a mobile home

Years ago I replaced the old wood press board garage doors with metal doors with insulation sealed in them. It made a BIG DIFFERENCE!!! The garage is cooler in summer, and warmer in winter.

My garage doors have insulated panels, they have been there since the house was built 12 years ago. I can't say for sure if they make a difference because I've never been without them. It appears that they just push in place, I can pull them out and put them back. They are located on the side of the house that is most protected from the wind, and it is significantly warmer inside the garage than outside. My in/out thermometer says 50/30 right now.

I bought the foam panels from the big box DIY store and cut them to fit. I then used plastic strap to hold them in place while I applied some aluminized bubble wrap, also from the DIY store. This combo has a pretty decent R value and is draft resistant as well.
