The Commanding Officer of the USS California (SSN 781) displays a pen I made for him using the original teak wood deck off the the battleship USS California (BB-44).
And here is mine. On display at the Mountain Art Network gallery in Lake Arrowhead and another at Redlands Art Association in Redlands.
I attached my work only because in celebration of a ship built after WWI, sunk in Pearl Harbor, raised, refurbished, took another torpedo, kamikaze and fought seven more Pacific battles before being decommissioned in 1952. WHAT A SHIP!!
As a followup to John's post, the USS California's SSN 781 ship's seal has seven stars. These stars represent the seven ships that born the name California and, as John mentioned, the seven battles stars the battleship received using WWII.
