This is what I've been tinkering with for months and finally have it nearly tuned in.
The Y axis drives a rotating bar so it isn't a 4th axis. It is patterned after the rubber band drives used on the laser etchers.
This one uses a timing belt. There is a small amount of lash that I still need to address but it is close to what I wanted.
Also, I have a lot more testing to do with different size stock diameters. This one is .5" diameter x 2" long.

Thanks for looking and Merry Christmas everyone.
Dale

Jeff; I turned the belt on edge so you could see the tooth side and the sprocket.
This is an HTD belt number L12mR12 12mm wide.
Because the teeth of this belt are not very deep, it is necessary that I take very light cuts.
So, I may revise it with a belt with deeper tooth gooves so it is less likely to jump the sprocket.
Also, I plan to revise the belt holder to something that is more adjustable. This one just has slots cut into the aluminum bar.
