i was happy with my chrome bits, and gold bits, and even the silver bits. everything was good in the world, but then i thought. hey. i could try a closed end pen. everyone's doin it. and hey, i needed a drill chuck for my lathe anyway. so i decided to try it. and here is the worst part of it all... i kinda liked it. so the pen turned out good. a few problems but it was definitely a learning experience. thanks guys for the inspiration.

what next a kitless? hmmmmm

as i side note. i did something else today that i've never done before. being that this needed to be turned separately i thought i would make good use of my time and assemble the bottom end while the ca was drying on the lid, well i applied a coat on the lid and went to the pen not realizing that i had spilled ca down my fingers. well i glued myself to my pen,. i always thought that i put a little bit of myself into ever pen i made. i sure did on this one.

the other pictures are some more for a christmas order. i don't usually work with oak but really wanted to keep the costs down as i'm giving him a really good deal.

Great looking pen, and don't discount oak, it's a great wood to work with! Just gotta fill in the deeper grain as you finish it out.

Dont yall just love it when we can make someone call us names.

Stick and Stones may break my bones :beat-up:but I gonna collect em up and make a pen(closed end)

Nice Job!

And don't think you're the first person to glue themselves to their hobby with CA. I've done it a lot with model airplane building, and learned how to be careful.

It's awful isn't it....I had the same problem!!

That is a really nice turning you have there!! I thought about using the upper barrel in the 'normal' method so the pen would end up with the clip, but I was having too much fun.

Scott (yup, kitless is the next step) B

Awesome pen! Ya, the whole closed end morphing into kitless thing is very, very addictive.

Had to laugh about the CA. Done that many times..

Have fun launching into the kitless world!
