Lost wax casting. milling. hand forming.
Indy-pen-dance.com, classicnib .com they both just advertised 4 different clips now available.

Need to know either how to make simple clips for a kitless FPs and RBs. Any suggestions?

Clips have always been a problem when making a pen from scratch. In my opinion, there are three options:

1. Buy some solid silver clips from Mike, above, but these really don't fall into the category of "simple" and would be reserved for your nicer pens.

2. As stated, Indy Pen Dance and Classics now are carrying a nice selectioon of clips in different platings. Now you don't have to rob clips from kits anymore.

3. Buy some sterling silver or gold sheet, cut and fashion your own clip to your desired shape but you need to learn to heat treat afterwards so the clip has some spring to it. This option is neither simple or cheap so probably not for everyone.

Agree with all above. Another choice for simple clips is bending welding rod. If you want something a little nicer, take a jewelry making class at a local workshop. They are offered all around the country. You may need several to learn all the techniques mentioned, but they are quite enjoyable. Many places allow studio time outside the class so you don't need to buy all the tools and equipment right away.

I made this laminated wood clip from some walnut and maple veneer I had on hand.

First I made a form from a block of scrap wood with the desired curve cut into it.

The lamination layers are thin enough to bend when the form is clamped together. I used yellow carpenter's glue to glue the layers together.
apply glue to layers stack on form use a clamp to press the layers together and let dry overnight.

Remove the blank from the form and shape with a sanding disc. The attachment is with a stack of laminates (cut off from the lamination process). Use a Dremel or small drill and drill two holes in the clip and 2 corresponding holes in the cap/body. Cut some small diameter rod to fit in the holes ans secure the clip with the rods and glue of your choice, clamp and let dry. The base layer that attaches to the cap can also be filed or shaped to match the contour of the cap.
