when you want to cut down the click style do you just subtract the little chrome extention, but not the part that goes in to the top of the parker refill?

You got it. Just the barrel length, not counting the nub that inserts into the refill.

Wow, another Nebraskan. I trim mine to 1.884, just long of the "standard" 1.882 which is up for debate all the time.

I try to get as close to 1.885 as possible, but have found any where from 1.880 to 1.890 work just fine.

If you mean the Sierra click, I do not use the extension and do not shorten the barrel, instead I use the gel refill that need no extension. My bet a customer will loose the extension latest after the second refill change. The type of refill is listed in the instruction sheet. Just yesterday I bought 20 double packs for $1.71 each - not a bad price considered that this pack normally cost around $3. Also, I found that my customers like the gel refill much more than the standard ball point.
