For those of you who wear a face shield and turn green wood how do you clean sap off the clear plastic on the shield? I was turning some green popular and the face shield was covered quickly. First I tried dish soap did not get it all, windex did clean it some but it was not clear, then I tried acetone (think the plastic started to dissolve) and that did not work either. Any suggestions???

I'd try mineral spirits to remove the sap. I've not tried the peel away protectors but they sound like a great solution. I'll have to give them a try.

Also, I think Goof-Off is the brand of "sticky stuff" remover I've used in the past that is pretty safe for plastics. One brand is very aggressive and melts some plastics ( Goo-Gone I believe).

William using ammonia products will make plastics craze, as will hydrocarbon solvents like Varsol or mineral spirits. The shield may be worn out by the time it really shows but it starts the degradation of the plastic right away. We used to use Mirror Glaze products for cleaning aircraft windscreens of the bug gutts from. Also try waxing the shield with paste wax or regular Pledge first so the sap has a harder time sticking.
