Cleaning a perfume applicator

I am getting ready to make a few of these perfume applicators for mothers day.

All of the instructions I have read, say that to change perfumes you need only to remove the tip and soak it in alcohol.

What about the large wick inside the applicator? If there is residual from the old perfume, won't that affect the new perfume?

That's why I suggest getting a separate applicator. Even the alcohol may affect the scent.
