Has anyone worked with a Clausing 100 metal lathe before? Would it be a good starter metal lathe? I am looking at buying one that is supposed to be complete and in good working order with a few accessories with it. What would a reasonable price be for it, I don't want to go looking without some sort of an idea of what they are worth.

Do I need a metal lathe??? Probably not but then that has never stopped me and grandpa wanted us to have some fun with the money he left us.

Is it an Atlas Clausing 10100 lathe? 6 in swing?
Do you or someone you know, know how to throughly inspect a lathe to tell if its worth, one what your going to pay for it and two how much if any repairs it needs. If you dont have any experiance I wouldnt buy it if it needs repairs or is worn out. If its in good or great shape its a wonderfull tool. If it needs parts or repairs it can get real expensive fast. . There was one on ebay that didnt sell for 500. DOes it have threading capabilities? If it uses gears, does it have the gear set? I would think that in good working shape its worth up to $400 depending on the accesories it could be worht more. I dont believe they still make them although ther are parts for sale on ebay. Do you know the asking Price?
