I have a shop fox Mini lathe and want to get a 1"x8 tpi chuck.
I am not sure which one to get.
Do I need to get a mini chuck or a regular size for it?

thanks

You can either as long as it has the correct 1x8 or an adaptor. It really depends on what you want to be able to do with it and what the chuck is capable of doing.

I believe that the Shop Fox mini has a 3/4"-16 spindle thread. My rec would be one of the Barracuda Micro chucks from PSI. I have both the tommy bar and the keyed models and they are very nice chucks. They are 1"-8 chucks but come with a 3/4"-16 adapter.

The Shop Fox 1740 most definitely has a 3/4"x16 spindle thread. The specification published in the instruction book for the lathe is incorrect.

I have that lathe, and opted for the PSI Utility Grip package. It comes with a 3/4"x16 adapter. The only problem is that it comes with the large flat jaws ('Cole chuck') - which is cannot be opened fully with the 8" swing of the Shop Fox 1704.
