I'm making a set of pens for some friends of ours. They are Chinese, so thought I would make a set of the Character pens from PSI like this

the link shows a black inlay. Traditional colors for weddings are Red and Gold.

Are the Red and Gold appropriate for a "Good Luck" pen?

Second question is I used a Black CA as a test and although it worked, it had voids and bubbles in it. The next time I will try black filler and thin CA or epoxy.

What do you use for the inlay material?

I do a lot of similar inlay work, have used PR, epoxy, CA, alumilite but have found the best material so far to be polymer clay. If your blank will stand up to the curing temperature, its almost fool proof. From time to time I've seen voids with all the other methods and have yet to lose one filled with clay. Lots of colors available, low cost, no pressure pot, no ultrasonics, no odor, finishes nicely with a little CA. I've filled wood and plastic blanks. Only caution is to seal the wood before filling to eliminate bleeding into wood, but that is true for all methods.
