I am wondering what the fall out of all of the problems China is having with safe products will have on our products we use from them?

Wish there was an American made supplier we could use.

Did you read where they shot the guy in charge of the dog food thing. This gives new meaning to getting Fired.

Most of the kits we use are made in Taiwan. And, if there was a supplier who actually made the kits in the US, they would go broke in a minute because nobody would pay $10-15 for a slimline kit.

In my day job I'm scrambling around trying to find a way to get tox testing done on 800+ products. At $700 per domestic test, $100 per test in China (should I believe the results?), does anyone know about any reliable do-it-yourself testing kits? I already have test results for all my food contact products, all jewelry, and all products targeted to kids.

With the exposure this issue is currently getting I'm concerned that consumers are going to be wanting a "lead free" certification for picture frames, wood desk accessories and etc, just in case someone picks them up and chews off the finish.

What about your personal purchases? Are these recent incedents going to cause you to be more reluctant to purchase "made in China" merchandise in all categories?

Are you concerned about any possible lead content in the resins, plating, or metal components of the pens you sell? Would you be willing to pay more for kits that were certified toxin free? I really don't know if there is any risk of toxin issues with pens, but it seems like there is with about everything else. I'd be much more likely to chew on the back of a pen than on a picture frame.

China has always been a point of contention with me... in my former life, I was in the import/export industry and China enjoys a duty free status on most imports... that's one of the reason so many of our products have gone to China for production.. they can be imported or re-imported without duties which can add a considerable percentage to the cost of a product.

That being said, one of my major clients before I retired shipped to China about 3 time monthly and I made good money on his shipments.. Kinda hypocritical of me wouldn't you say??[8D]
