Anyone know where i can get my hands on some nice cherry wood, possibly a burl, or something other than just a regular blank. I have someone interested in a desktop pen, his office is finished in cherry wood, and wants something to match..

Im even open for another suggestion of wood type that would compliment the cherry if you have any suggestions.

You might try sending Johnm a PM he was offering quite a bit of cherry awhile back. It was 1st class Cherry I thought.

Most cherry furniture, especially that which is commercially available, has been stained. Many non-woodworkers are surprised at the actual color of cherry.

That thought ran through my mind also... which is why im open to something other than just cherry.. but something that would compliment the color people are used to seeing.

I have some cherry.I do not have any burl.It would be at least a week before I could get to it.I am at work and flooded in.Been here for 9 days and looking like another week before we go home.

What exactly are you looking for in size?

I have some Black Cherry crotch/burl, but it's not huge.....

Sample piece I cut off the block:

If you have some let me know what you'd like as far as price per blank and shipping. I'm not against stocking up on some blanks and offering him choices. Send me a PM if u find something that might work.

Once you find a source for cherry, and if you want natural darkening without using a dye or alternate material, I've heard that you can spray it with a lye/water mixture, and you can control the color by how strong the lye mixture is. I've also read that you can "fume" it with a potassium dichromate mix in a sealed tent/container - similar to ammonia fuming with oak. I have not tried either method, so can't comment on how dark it will turn the cherry.

Send me what ever sm FRB from the USPS cost and I'll stuff the box full of cherry, walnut and oak if you want oak. I also have a few Ipe blanks. No charge for the blanks.
