I recently purchased a pressure pot large enough so that I could combine the fun of casting with bowl turning. I thought it might be interesting to add some color in the rim of the bowls. The pictures below are the result of the experiment.
All are Cherry and are approximately 11-12" in diameter by 2-3" high. The three glossy bowls have been finished with Waterlox and were buffed. The others have a been finished with walnut oil. A few of the bowls had cracks and checks which were filled with the colored resin.

C&C are appreciated.

Now tell us how you did the casting.
Did you finish turning the bowl with a groove then cast?
I basically turned the bowls close to the finished size except for the rims. I left the rims a little on the high side and turned a concave shape in the top of the rim ( to contain any extra resin ). I then cut a groove in the rim where I wanted the colored resin to go and then poured the resin into the groove. I then put the bowl ( and chuck ) in the pressure pot to cure. The next day I remounted the bowl on the lathe, did the final shaping the rim and did all the sanding.
