Cheese slicer epoxy question

I just finished some handles for cheese spreaders from PSI. See photo of what I mean.

I haven't put mine together yet because it requires that you put the tang into a 1/4" diameter hole, 1 1/4" deep with epoxy. I haven't worked with epoxy in over 10 years. Because the tang is a flat narrow piece of metal and the hole it goes into is round, the epoxy has to fill the gaps. I bought gap-filling epoxy but I am not sure if I should put the glue on the tang real thickly or just into the hole???

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would put the epoxy in the handle. I would also wrap a piece of painters tape on both pieces to make clean up easier.

Great idea. Do you remember if you used CA glue or epoxy?

at the time i would have used 24hr/superstrength (different names in different countries) epoxy

now i have become allergic the epoxy so i would have to find something else, i don't think CA would stand up due to it being a brittle glue

I've made a couple dozen of those and find that almost filling the hole with epoxy then putting in the blade works well.

I do tape it off for easier cleanup.
