Check/crack in stabilized maple burl blank

What is the cause of this type of check/crack? This is a stabilized maple burl blank.

Can only guess but my first inclination would a too tight press fit, sometimes caused by excess glue inside the brass tube.

My guess would be the hole just a bit undersized for the pressed in fitting . Stabilization hardens the wood but doesn`t make it forgive expansion stresses any better . Ken`s suggestion could also be the cause .

Yep, I think that you pushed too hard.

Could also happen if the part did not go in straight, but rather at a slight angle for a bit and then straightened out.
