I've been watching here and on other forums and think this would be something different to do but I have no idea where to start. Is there two different kinds of resins? I've seen some with different colors and some in clear with feathers or something under the clear.I would like to try both but would someone point me in the right direction and tell me where to buy these materials at?

Start by reading what you can on this site tons of mistakes made by us that will save you a head ache.Other then that just dive in and get ready to spend a little cash at first on pigments/pearls and those things, but these will last a long time longer then your first jug of resin will,LOL.Good Luck,Victor

There are some excellent articles in the library. Look at the index to find them. Also, here is a link to a powerpoint presentation I did at the Utah Woodturning Symposium back in May. Actually, there are two...one on casting and the other on slimline modifications.

Do a good turn daily!

Donny,

It's not hard to get into, but like everything else related to turning, it is a vortex. Your basic needs are Resin, which you can get from http://uscomposites.com/, Some sort of pigments, of which there are many. I use Mica powders from http://www.coastalscents.com. Then you need molds. I use silicone muffin pans cut up into individual cups for mixing. I have a few different homemade silicone molds for pouring.

Check out Ron's tutorial: http://content.penturners.org/articles/2010/startcastingforlessthan100.pdf

This will help you get started. I went way over the $100 budget, but I'm an idiot.
