Hi,

I have a Utility Grip 4 jaw chuck from PSI. I have been using it primarily for pen blanks, so I just use the 2 jaw setup.

Today I was going to work on a larger blank and so attached the 4 jaws only to realise that 1 of the carriers is out of alignment. Am pretty sure that the last time I used the 4 jaws, everything was good, so not to sure what happened.

Do I have to disassemble the chuck and if so, how hard is it? Anything in particular that I should be aware of?

Thanks

Steve

It sounds like you have a carrier out of sync in the chuck ways.
Are the jaws not meeting in the middle? There's a specific sequence the jaws go in and each has to start on a specific thread. Make sure you have the correct carriers in the right ways. Then place a heavy thick rubber band around them and with the handle in place back the carriers all the way out until the all click and jump back in place. You should then be able to turn the handle now to run the carriers back to the center and see if they meet correctly.

A photo of the issue may help.

Each jaw is marked 1,2,3 or 4. The jaws must go into the correct slot with corresponding number. Also, if you skip ahead or behind (jaws MUST each thread on at the first opportunity with the mating gear slot in the chuck body), you end up with one out of alignment.

Ok,

Got it sorted. Took out all of the carriers and replaced them in order as suggested.

Thanks

Steve
