Why not take a look at Woodchuck Tools. Ken is a IAP member and I have one of his Bowl Pro that I would highly recommend. Quality tool and good service. He also has the Woodchuck Unitool list (round & square insert) here Tools

I recently ask everyone on a group what chisels they are using and many said this type. I am in the process of making some scrapers for myself and never used one like this either mind you.

Does anyone have any experience with http://www.eddiecastelin.com/products_and_services ? He makes an 18mm cutter connected to a ½ inch square bar. This bar can also accept the small square cutter too. I guess my question is can you really place a square peg in a round hole?

Cap'n Eddie is president (I think) of Bayou Woodturners (and a neighbor of mine), he also has several videos on youtube for various techniques: capneddie - YouTube

Haven't used his tools yet myself (hope to soon), but I know several other Bayou Woodturners do.

I have used Cap'n Eddies tools and love them. I have used the the cutters for about 8 months and done some testing on new tools. The edge lasts a long time and they do have a good price. I do know that after he goes to SWAT he will have a big cutter sale.

I've been using one of Capt. Eddie's carbide tools for awhile now, works fine, I have not ordered the 18 mm round yet, but the square and radius square are what I have, the only drawback I can see is that the screw that hold the carbide blade on sticks out the bottom of the bar a little, but you can easily grind it down.

Kind of short on Quality control heh? How well do the Chinese boat inserts work for you??

+1 on Brian. He is an awesome guy to deal with and builds his tools to exact tolerances. I would highly recommend Brian.

Ordering mine from him tomorrow! cant wait!

It is my understanding that Eddie gets his carbide cutters from Germany. He buys the bar stock locally and manufactures the tools himself. China not involved. I have three of his tools and while not of the same finish (spit and polish, as it were) as Easy Wood Tools' (EWT) products, they work every bit as well. He calls his carbide cutters 'EZ' to distinguish them from the EWT variety. I also have a full set of EWTs and use them interchangeably with Eddie's EZs.

The screw is made to be ground down and I have seen on all carbide cutters when you tighten the screw the cutter will turn. All you need you put a drop of CA glue on the screw and when you need to take it off use a lighter or a gas stove and heat up the CA glue and pull it off.
