Can anyone ID this wood???

An officer at work gave me this wood and we do not know what it is. He was given this piece while in Norway a few years ago. The person that gave it to him is the one that cut it down. Can anyone help??

I was going to guess Birch also. But I can't get a good squint at that bark even tho the pix are gi-normous.[]

I would also suggest resizing your pictures down a little so they fit screens easier.

wow under the properties on those files I show one to be over 1700kb. Isn't the limit 100?

I would think birch also but the bark just don't look right to me.
