I purchased the same caliper from CSUSA awhile ago and no complaint until it started going nuts on the measurements. It says 1.5" then in a couple of seconds it goes to 555.9 really weird. I am sure that it is just this piece-I am not slamming the product not CSUSA, just my bad luck. I am going to order one from Rockler when I get my flier.

Thanks for the heads up.

before you give up on it, try a new battery. That's why most all day everyday machinist's use dial calipers, btw. So my baby brother tells me, and he are one. :-)

Yes...check the battery, and also the battery connector. Mine was acting weird also until I bent the connector to make better contact with the side of the battery.

Thanks guys for the tips. I will try them. Mike the website has it listed for $39.99. I only paid $9.99 for this unit. I get their emails every other day it seems like.

I am on my third digital caliper. Each of the first two began going crazy. Even though I would turn them off, within a day or two of putting a new battery in they would go dead. In between they would report dubious measurements.

Last year I bought three of these calipers. The first died within weeks. I gave one to my grand daughter to use in school. It died. The third passed soon after. I now have three snap gauges that cost $9.99 each. I'd pass on them.

Mike, I'm a little late on this but, try closing the caliper all the way to 0 and, turn it off. Then see what happens. This is what I did with my Kobalt calipers. FWIW

It is on line, as well as in the stores (at least it is in the flyer). Just go to Rockler's search and type "fractional caliper". The $9.99 special comes up and says "on line only".

I own a couple of pairs of this caliper and rarely use them. They are polycarbinate and the tips flex. Drives me crazy.

I find that if you use a light touch, you can still get an accurate reading. Also, I like the polycarbonate teeth, since if I am measuring the final diameter of my finish I know i'm not going to scratch the finish when measuring. That could happen with the metal ones, and has always been a worry for me.
