Emiliano Achaval did a remote demo on making a calabash for theRichmond Woodturners last month. Here is my first attempt at making a calabash using the ratios he gave us. Maple, 6.5" at its widest.

That bowl rocks. Sorry, couldn't resist. Calabash, rocking. Yeah, um, anyway... that looks great. The grain and curl in that wood is beautiful.

Were you turning green wood? When I turn in the top of the bowl like that making once turned bowls they usually crack in the transition between side and bottom as they dry. Color, figure, shape all great.
