Well, I feel like I am remaking Caddy Shack in my yard! I have some rodents, don't know if they are ground hogs, gophers or moles but either way they are destroying my yard!! I have tunnels burroughed all over my yard! I have tried the Gopher Peanuts a couple times but they haven't seemed to get them.....

Anyone have any home remedies to rid my yard of these things? I don't want to break out my gun or blow up my yard....LOL!

Someone help!!

Sell the mower, pour concrete, more time in the shop
Find the right cat and the cat will leave you gifts on the porch. DAMHIKT
Moles are after the food ( little bugs and such ) that just under the grass but in the dirt, ( the mole will leave a trail of dirt (mound) ) when they burrough. They hate vibrations, but get rid of the food & get rid of the moles. Something you can fertilize your yard with that also kills the little bugs too. Good luck.

you can mix 6 oz. of castor oil and 2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid in a gallon of water and sray with a pump up sprayer or you can use the siphon type on a garden hose and just use the castor oil in it. I works best if used every 30-60 dyas and just before a rain that helps it get pushed into the soil.

You too Fred? I have been here 8 years and never had problems with these things until this year. I have thought about putting my boa in one of the tunnels!!!

I've been here 13 years and never have had them this bad! I have had a few but I think I have an entire colony in my front yard!

I will have to figure out the bugs and see if I can get rid of them. They must be moles as they do leave a trail just below the surface of the yard.... Maybe the castor oil spray along with the bug killer!! I have to do something!

Get a bag of GrubEx and apply to your lawn with a spreader. Water it in with a sprinkler. Kills the grubs living underground, leaving the moles with nothing to eat. They'll move on to a more "grubby" yard.

"I've got an important job for you... I want you to kill all the gophers on the course."
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I kill all the golfers, they're going to lock me up and throw away the key"
"GOPHERS!!! not golfers, the little brown furry rodents"
"We can do that, we don't even have to have a reason"

great movie

Don't know how effective, but Harbor Freight had windmills on sale for $10.99 they claim will drive gophers out the yard for 200-300 square feet around the mill.... decorative, useful, and cheap... right?:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

This year I have a wild turkey and 7 of her babies walking in my yard. Next door there WAS a momma ground hog and 5 babies. There is also another ground hog that come in from the woods. Time to get out the 22 again (not for the turkey).

My bride's grand mother hated moles with a passion beyond belief. She would stand in the yard for hours with her shovel in hand waiting to see the earth move. Then she would pounce and flip the poor mole out and beat it to death with the shovel.
Being the smart person I can be, I suggested a sure fire way to kill all the moles in the yard whereupon my bride smacked me up side the head. All I said was to pour some gas in the holes and then light it. Doris knew Granny would do exactly that and send her yard down the block, so I had to make some really quick retractions.
Now I see someone has produced a device that does exactly that. Dang! Another great idea lost along with 'bottled water'.

Now that the neighbors are too close, my dad can't use the prairie dogs as 17mm target practice. He hired a guy to come blow them up. Worked like a charm. I don't know why he has not done it for his mole/gopher problem.

If it's moles you have (do you see tunnels dug all over your yard?) the best short term solution is the spike traps (I've got the Sweeney Mole Trap, and it works great) but in then end, as said above, you need to get rid of the grubs or there will just be another (and another and another) move in...

If you aren't seeing the tunnels, but instead just seeing holes dug here and there, you may have chipmunks instead. They dig little getaways all over the place to give themselves a quick hiding place in case they get caught out in the open. I've had them dig little holes all over my yard, right out in the open. There isn't much you can do to get rid of them, as they will just keep moving in if you get rid of some. Best bet for them is to eliminate places where they are comfortable, so don't give them a place to hide. If you want to get rid of the ones you have, look online for how to make a "Chipper-Dipper". Simple. Cheap, and very effective...

Get a hungry cat ... my 'Tiger' is very experienced and I have no moles, chipmunks, snakes, mice, other rodents, etc. ... Neither do either of my closest neighbors.

I however have a fat, sassy, lovable, furry, and very healthy cat! BTW, she is not for hire! You can get a good one from any animal shelter for a very reasonable price and give the animal a great home, heck, for the price go ahead and get two. Make sure they have been 'fixed' or you will have many extras around in short order!

My recommendation is VERY SENSITIVE motion lights with a flasher that lights up in the bedroom when the motion light are activated, along with a rifle that shoots 22 shorts.

These critters strike at night (just like Dilllos). The bright motion lights blind them just long enough for you to "cap 'em". The 22 shorts don't make much noise (you know how close my neighbors are).

OR....you could buy countless Hav-a-Heart traps and bait. IF I TRAP 'em, I'm painting nascar numbers on them and racin' 'em!

They REALLY ARE a problem. I really am a steward of the land, and I don't want to mess up any ecosystems, but we are getting over run with gophers, moles, squirrels and armadillos. Our county has deemed them "vermin" which means we can shoot them anytime, as long as we don't disturb the peace or endanger others.

If you do not own a dust collector, seems like you have a good excuse to go buy one. Suck those rscals outta that hole in no time flat!

And then it serves double-duty in your shop. I justified my compressor to my wife 30 years ago, saying I needed it to blow out the sprinkler system, since it cost about $25 at the time to rent one. Then I mentioned how great it would be to start a woodshop since I had the compressor ...

She pretended like she bought into the whole idea, as I recall.
