After I turn my pen blanks down to the bushings I sand with 400 grit to get a smooth finish. I apply 3 coats of thin ca and then about 5 coats of medium ca. I then go through the sanding and polishing process and the blank is ready to go on the pen. This is where I find on the sierra style pens that the end are to big. Do you guys take the wood down past the bushing and build it back up with the ca glue? I don't have this problem on all pen kits. Any help would be nice. Thanks rebel1

How much CA "build" you get can vary from person to person. You could take notes and measure each pen blank you finish to see how much you are getting, and how consistent it is from pen to pen. Then you can overturn the desired amount each time to allow for the anticipated build. Always use calipers when you are about done to end up with the desired finish diameter.

I use calipers and measure the arts and the blank after the CA is applied. For me, I want the CA to be about .007-8 owner the pen pars measurement when just applied. LIGHT skew scraping, 800 and 1200 grit wet paper brings that down to about .004 or 5 over measurements with no ridges left, micro mesh run brings it to .002 or 3, which is perfect IMO...

I do find that ONE of the stock Sierra bushings is larger than it should be...

That problem went away for me when I quit using the plastic bags to apply , now use paper towels...push the build up past the end off on to the bushing.

Switch to the delrin finish bushings to "Finish" the pen, problem went away all together....Penturners Products around $10 or so..but welll worth the money...have moved on to other issues to work...hope this helps...good luck
