How do the superglues on the shelf at lowes and HD compare to the ca glues that we use?

Are they different formulations?

Would they be like 'thick' ca as far as viscosity rating?

As you can see there is a big difference among glue. Not all CA is the same. More and more common is it for additives to be used for various things like strength, setting time, gel vs liquid and the like.

I've used gorilla brand super glue from lowes in a pinch. It's a medium, and I noticed no difference.....other than what you typically expect from different brands.

Years ageo, I used to make scale models ..

mostly people, but a lot of planes and ships. CA glue was an important commodity then. The prices were all over the place. The bigger stores sold 1/3 -1/2 oz CA glues for around $1.25. But the hobby stores sold chemically same products for 2-4 oz around $5. Marked savings

Same for epoxy. Prices for a good brand of epoxy 8-9 oz, 5-30 minutes. $9-10.

I like Build It CA/Epoxy glues. I've used them for years. Their price is better or ok. I like the CA finish for Build It. Performance is acceptable. I don't like Hold Fast or most of the big box brands.

But then again I may be a creature of habit.

Speaking of model glue. Would that work for the tubes? I remember when I used to make models they changed the formula. Kids used to sniff it so they made it safer.

I still like and buy all of my CA and Epoxy glues from Wooden Wonders... first when Monty had it and now that Ed Brown has taken over... I find it's the most consistent of all the glues I've tried and best prices, even with the shipping.
