A friend gave me about 10 board feet of scrap cherry from his cabinet shop. Whenever I am experimenting or using a new kit, I use the cherry and make sure I understand the new kit and how everything works together. To this point, I have never finished any of the cherry. I was attempting to make a pen for my friend to say thanks. I did the upper barrel about a week ago and sealed with Enduro sealer. I originally planned to use Enduro. When I picked up where I left off, the CA glue was close at hand so I decided I would finish with CA (I forgot I had sealed with Enduro sealer). The CA took and the top barrel finished well. I turned the bottom barrel, sanded to 12000mm, applied BLO and burnished and let dry for two days, and then applied the CA. I am using a thick CA. Applied the first coat and let it dry. When I returned, the CA appears to have soaked into the wood. Applied a 2nd and 3rd coat with the same result. On the 4th coat, it appears this may not soak in and I should be able to complete the pen.
To this point, I have not had this problem with CA soaking into the wood before.
I also assume I didn't have this problem with the top barrel since I had applied the sanding sealer.
Anyone ever run into this before.
