A cloudy area can be caused by sanding through the CA, CA lifting or oily wood. Since you didn't mention what type of wood, that could not be eliminated. My first guess would be sanding through the CA.

Sounds to me like CA lifting as the cloudiness is where the bushings go. It probably happened when you broke them loose from the CA. There are many ways to help this issue. One of which are the delrin bushings that I and JohnnyCNC sell.

I have a pen in my pocket right now that has a white ring at one end of the cap. The problem is that the CA finish adheres the wood to the bushings, and when I broke the bushings loose, I fractured the CA finish.

My solution was to turn a set of 'finishing bushings' from HDPE. CA won't stick to HDPE.

The CA can lift when you take the bushing of the end, as stated above. However, in my experience it often lifts if a bit of the CA extends past the end of the blank when you press the hardware into the blank.

Some people use a sanding mill or even a pen mill to clean up the end of the blank before the hardware is pressed in. I personally use a sharp chisel and cut it off. I would experiment until you find out what works best for you. The important thing is to trim the CA off the end of the blank before installing the hardware.

sorry guys forgot to say that the pen that i had the ca form a ring around the top and bottom of the blank was myrtle wood. thank for the ideas to fix this problem
