I recently dyed some pens using alcohol based dyes, and when applying the CA finish, the yellow instantly turned orange. To solve this, I used two coats of spray poly. Now I'm questioning if I can start my CA finish. I'll probably try it regardless, but im curious if anybody has tried this in the past. Will the CA adhere to the poly with no issues?

Why would you want to switch to CA? Poly is a great finish, and and be polished to high gloss if that is what you want.

I would be reluctant to mix different finishes.

I tinted maple with Trans-Tint where I used water as a solvent. Then CA over that after it dried. Never had a problem. Did you let the dye dry as the alcohol could have reacted here?
