I don't normally do dyed wood blanks, but I an making two pen & pencil sets for friends and need to dye them to get the blue and green colors to "pop".

I am using thin CA as a finish and it keeps bleeding the dye thru. I have left the dye over-night, but still get color when applying the next coat of thin CA.

Is it necessary to use something different than CA? Would lacquer seal the CA?

Here's my method. Don't know if its the "right" way, but it works for me. After sanding, I apply aniline dye mixed in dna. 2-3 passes usually. Let dry overnight. Then I seal the blanks in a mixture of dewaxed shellac/blo/dna. Equal parts. Drys in minutes, then CA. No bleed thru problems. Hope this helps.
