With IAP's 3rd Annual Birthday Bash coming to a close, I would like to offer a suggestion to those who list items in the Business Classified.

Just as we IAP members support those who advertise for free in the Business Classifieds, I think it would be a nice thought if you were able to make some sort of financial donation to the IAP. I realize that many of those who advertise in the Business Classified may have already made a financial contribution to IAP ..... if so, we wholeheartedly thank you. On the other hand, if you have forgotten to make a donation, or just haven't gotten around to it, perhaps now is the time. It would be a great way of thanking the IAP for keeping the Business Classifieds free of charge.

This post, by the way, was completely unsolicited by Jeff. I thunk it up all by myself. :D

First, let me say that I am not someone who advertises in the business section.

Doc, while I believe your heart is in the right place, I believe it is somewhat presumptuous to tell other people what they should do with their money.

Presumptions abound you may as well enjoy them. But as The country folks say "If a baby don't cry it don't get no milk." There is nothing wrong with making a suggestion. especially one as nicely worded as Doc's If all the non or not for profit groups that try to get $ out of me were so pleasant they might be a little more successful. The commercial groups have a chance to sell to a specific group of people for free. If they are successful, spreading the wealth will help ensure they continue to have access to the market. Its not just a nice thing to do its good buisness.

I see both points of view on this. Just as a point of reference, in the past, a lot of the businesses AND individuals who have used the classifieds have contributed very nicely. Jeff can chime in if those donations have dropped off. Also, many of the prizes for the bash have been donated by our advertisers. I'd like to thank them and encourage them to continue to support the site with both cash and merchandise donations. It all helps!

What kind of donations either way have been donated in the past?
And how do members win donations?

In the first "Bash" (2005), we had everything but the kitchen sink donated... from boxes of sandpaper to chucks, from kits to lathes. We had quite a large number of suppliers who were gracious and donated items, possibly even more donations than this year. As for "how to win", we had the first Ugly Pen Contest, some random drawings, etc. Since we are a voluntary organization, we've let these things go wherever the membership has wanted to take them. Oh! And we also had the first Pen-in-the-Hat exchange... I even wrote a poem for it. Thanksfully, it has been expunged from the records. [8D]

Lou,

Could you find the poem and "reprint it" here? I would LOVE to see it.[}:)][;)]

Fortunately, the file is over a year old and can no longer be found through a search. The only one who might have access to it is Jeff Brown.

Best,
