Well over a year ago I aquired an uncured buffalo leg bone in the hope of using it for a pen. I boiled it for hours on end and left it out in the sun for a long time but it still feel and looks oily/greasy. I've used cow bone before and it seems to dry out very nicely.

Any suggestions?

No....bleach will ruin the bone. Soak it in acetone or Coleman fuel to remove the grease. Than let it dry out. If you want it white, soak it in peroxide overnight and then put it, still wet, in the sun on a piece of aluminum foil for a few hours. Then rinse completely

Bleach does not cut the fat.
What also works is washing powder (the type you put in your clothes washing machine) added to your boiling water (I used to use about a cup of washing powder to a 10 litre pot of water for fatty cow bone) - then you need to regularly skim off the fat, and remove the bone after 3 hours boiling while the water is hot, else it reabsorbs the fat from the 'dirty' water. Washing powder has zeolites in it which help to whiten the bone slightly, but is not as effective as peroxide.

If you boil with washing powder - do it outside, or your family will hate you...
