Alan, the buckeye has a black acrylic toneboard and the red oak has a cocabola toneboard. Both of these woods are not dense enough to make a toneboard.


Frank, I'm often one of the few that gets accused of charging too much for my calls. I'll donate a call before I will sell one at to cheap of a price.

I'm interested in making my own game calls(mainly predator calls).
I've attempted in making them before but couldn't get the right sound out of them.
what size hole do you drill in the toneboard?
and what type on material do you use for your reeds?

I've never seen this type, I have just made them from the kits, and don't use them, does the reed get covered?

Tomahawk, you can experiment with different diameter air channels. These 2 calls have a 1/4" air channel that steps up to 1/2". A 3/16" air channel will produce a nice high pitch sound, but you have to deepen the air channel through the toneboard to allow enough air flow. The reeds are 0.010" mylar.


CWJ, these are open reed calls. The only thing that covers the reeds is your mouth. They are a bite style call. Depending on where you apply pressure to the reed, determines the pitch and tone of the call.
