recently I received the mother load of blanks from my good mate Peter Hay. So many lovely timbers, it's hard to choose one to turn!
Peter mentioned that one of his favourites was brown mallee burl. Well, now I see why, and have to agree with him! It is just magnificent!! The photos don't really capture the brilliance of the wood.
I think there will be quite a few more in the future!
Thanks for looking!

Beautiful work!!! Gotta ask, what's your finishing technique - that is outstanding!

Absolutely fabulous work!

Well executed with great transition to the hardware. You’ve done it justice .

Thanks!!
I use thin mercury flex, 10 to 12 coats with accelerator between each coat. Wet sand 1200 until dull and perfectly smooth, light lateral wet sand, then I go through the micromesh wet pads, finally finishing with some auto car polish on paper towel and buff with an soft cloth. It hasn't failed me yet this method. If the wood is very porous, I start with 2 coats of med ca, then start the same process as above. Everyone has a different technique, this is what works for me!

Beautiful Pen. I can see why he liked the Brown Mallee burl, but my favorite is still your cross cut Hairy Oak.
Dave
Dave it's like comparing diamonds to emeralds hey! I love them both, but yes, the hairy oak is special. Thanks mate

I love it. I tried to get good blanks from both brown and red smaller burl and found it tough to get crack free blanks. My best bottle stopper is brown, with crinnilations showing through the sap wood top. Fantastic finish also.
