This is a piece of brown cellulose acetate with a striated look to the material.
Has some gold striping in the brown material. You have to really move the pen around in the light to see the beauty in the material. On a gold cigar kit.

I understand. I have one of the Canadian made Sheaffer's that I picked up in the winter, in part because of that thread. The cap is just under 0.600" thick at the widest.

Maybe. The bands radiate from the center out so they would be tough to replicate. Would you know if originally they were made as a big block and drawn out to pen sized rod, a little like the way poly clay flowers are made?

Hi Pete, I cut a strip off a slab. When you look at the slab it looks like 1/8" to 3/16" layer after layer laminated together. I'm thinking it was some how poured that way and not glued up.
