Boxes

Like many other wood turners, I've been intrigued by small lidded end-grain boxes. Here are a couple that I've made in recent weeks. Both are made from hard maple; because the wood supply that I have comes in limited thicknesses, I have to glue up a blank to produce a box that is large enough to actually hold something.

The box on the left was inspired by Robbie's most recent video on three-sided boxes (Robbiethewoodturner - YouTube). But unlike Robbie's project, I chose to make a round top from a scrap of contrasting wood (goncalo alves). The finish is teak oil.

The maple used in the shorter box has an interesting bark inclusion. The finish is a shop-made lacquer-based friction polish.

great job on both pieces. I too am partial to small lidded boxes. The contrasting woods make it stand out. keep up the good work.
