Bottle stopers are a lot of fun. You get to explore a lot of different shapes than with pen turning. I recommend buying a tap that fits the threads of your mandrel. Cut the threads, soak with thin CA, LET CA DRY COMPLETELY, retap (if you ignored the previous step it will be very obvious).

I also recommend Ruth Niles stoppers. They are the best I have found.

I make two categories of bottle stoppers - the good ones that I give as gifts to friends, and the cheap ones that I use for practice and that I leave in our time-share condo where they disappear. If I were selling them (I generally don't pursue sales aggressively), I would only offer the good ones for sale. The good ones are always made with Ruth Niles hardware, while the cheap ones are made with the dowel/silicon sleeve hardware from PSI.
