I had knee surgery on Tuesday and now must sit with my leg elevated and iced to keep down the swelling. I am sitting reading posts here, watching some television, reading and I am now officially bored. I keep seeing or reading about things that I want to make on the lathe or try out.
I will be able to start walking on Saturday, with crutches, and I know that I must go slowly. I am missing the beautiful Indian summer weather and it is supposed to cool down beginning Saturday.
I only want to be downstairs in my shop making things.

Sorry about your predicament. Are you into computer games or anything. That's what I usually do when I am bored. Been playing Runescape for about 4 years now. Not sure if it is your kind of thing, but I thought I would mention it, cause it's something you can do sitting down.

Cindy,
Hope you're up-and-at-'em real soon. Just don't push it. Enjoy your time off. By the way, I thought it was always summer in CA.
Tom

I know how you feel Cindy. I had my (hopefully) last left leg/foot/ankle surgery two weeks ago today. It is up as I type this, and I will not be walking on it until at least mid to late November.

Read a lot of IAP, read the tutorials. Search eBay for hidden pen gems. Play freecell, lots of it.

Just know you aren't alone in this.

I understand bored. I have been on light duty at work for about 1 1/2 months going to have to have hip surgery. So I will be out for at least 2 weeks before I can go back to light duty. I hope you can find something to keep you busy.

I know the feeling all to well!! I had knee surgery oct 1. Not being one to follow directions I ditched the crutches on the 2nd and have been hobbling ever since. I do however spend 80% of my time elevated, iced and medicated. I have gotten bored with the web and since I don't watch t.v I am totally stir crazy. made it down to the shop once but couldn't stand long enough to be productive. I am now starting to wonder if it all was worth it. Oh well time will tell. get well soon!

Not a doctor but been there. Do move around from time to time because you need to watch for blood clots forming. You may be on some blood thinners. Good luck with recovery.

Cindy as a recipient of knee surgury and hip replacement my only advice is take your time!!! I feel your pain but just relax and let your body heal...you have plenty of time to plan your next projects. Youll be on your feet in no time and in much better shape.

Hi Cindy,

I hope and pray that you will have a quick recovery. Don't spend all of your money while you are recovering, buying all the stuff that people post here for sale .

Take care,
Dan

Hi Cindy,

I'm sorry to hear about your leg. I hope the surgery went well and you are fully up and around "real soon now".

If you need something to do Saturday that will still allow you to mostly be sitting there is a BAWA meeting in Castro Valley and they have a guest turner doing demonstrations. You could just sit and watch.

Hope you have a speedy recovery.

As a suggestion, get a notebook and sketch all the pens you think of that you want to make. Then have someone bring all your blanks up to the kitchen table. Go through them and pair blanks to sketches - Rubber band them together. You may not be able to turn yet, but planning pens is fun too!

Thanks for all of the well wishes and ideas. I have had my partner bring up from the shop some laser cut kits that I have but haven't glued together. I am going to put them together.
