Has anyone run across this kit before? A friend has this pen and I really like that it is solid brass and very robust. Just wondering who makes it and if any can be had.

I saw very similar ones for sale at InoOf100Pens, a California based Etsy store. I saw them in both Brass and Black in the $60 dollar range for completed pens. The store called them "Industrial" pens. I haven't found any kits anywhere that look like these though. Maybe the Etsy shop owner would be willing to give you some information. - Dave
Great find Dave, thanks. The Koa pen that is the first on the page is exactly the same. Now if I can only find out where he gets his parts ...

Thanks everybody for the links and clues. I did find one vendor selling the kits in aluminum, and the price is on par with other bolt action kits. I might contact these people and see if they have the ability to get the brass and stainless steel versions. Anyway, if anyone is interested, these are pretty robust, and worth considering.

So here's the latest on this bolt action pens. As Drewby108 noted, these were PSI kits, but were discontinued in 2022. Dawn at Exotic Blanks told me that they sold out of their stock in 2023. I did get a response from Klingspor, and they have 5 or 6 of the stainless steel kits still as unsold stock, and have them available by order (not available on the website) for $22.95 each (item XR08213 Clip Bolt action in Stainless Steel at 800-228-0000 of anyone is interested.

They seem to be a pretty solid kit with one exception; the pocket clip. It shows two screws on the outside, bot only the top one is real and goes through to the barrel. So the clip can pivot on this screw which seems to limit the usability of this. As this is discontinued, it seems largely a moot point though.

Anyway, thanks for all who responded in helping me sort this mystery.

Looking at mine, both screws are fake on the exterior. The clip is tightened by a screw on the inside of the bolt. It does come loose over time (I hook the clip on my jeans, so maybe putting more stress than other people might), and takes using a long and fine screwdriver to tighten it back up without disassembling the body.

That said, I've only had to do this two or three times since I made the pen back when the kit was new. Overall, I'm happy with it and would buy it again.

Interesting info about the clip screw. How do you access the inner screw? Looking at mine, I don't see any way of accessing the back side of the barrel.

The screw is where the refill sits against in the assembled pen. Send a long and skinny phillips screwdriver down through the body after unscrewing the tip and removing the refill.
