It looks to me like the wood is over-turned at the nib coupler. Were you using a bushing?

I noticed that as well. Looks rather severe in the photo. Otherwise I like the wood. It's hard sometimes to keep the lighter colored wood from turning color with the sanding process.

Nice piece of wood, too bad about that nib step up. Wouldn't be hard to punch the parts off and build it back up with CA.
