Blue Maple Burl Atrax

I just got my own stabilizing setup and got the first round of pen blanks through the cactus juice. This is my first one turned. Maple burl stabilized with blue dye. The piece was pretty solid to begin with so there was not a lot of color change. It made for an interesting effect.

To me , the sharper delineation between colour and wood looks much better than if the wood had stained a more solid colour .

It's surprising the subtle color changes just with one dye (Blue). From my screen, I see a variety of colors. Nice job!

My pictures don't convey it really well but you are right. It varies from a light blue to almost black. It really is interesting.
