I found some deep red bloodwood at a local Woodcraft and got to work. I purchased a 24" x 3" piece which gave me many blanks. The stuff looks carmine when turned or freshly cut and then deepens to a rich dark red when finished in walnut oil. It has become a new favorite. Blanks I ordered from a vendor were VERY ANEMIC and had an unacceptable hemoglobin count so I suggest you see the actual before you spend. Luckily they gave me a refund and said keep the wood, but it remains unturned for now.
