Anyone make blanks from old briar wood pipes? I have a small number of highly figured briar pipes from 40-years or so back when I used to smoke. They've been sitting in a box and it just came to me that these might be turned as is or cast into a hybrid blank.

Anyone done this?

Thanks,

Ray

Ray I've made several worthless wood blanks. I've never smoked or looked at a pipe very closely so I don't know how thick they are or where the thick part might be. My thinking on casting would be do you cut them up in small pieces and loose the figure and/or turn away more wood than resin? You might look into segmenting as an option as well. That would be my first thought over casting. Maybe some of the segmenters will chime in and offer their opinion. Good Luck.

I will trade you blanks for pipes. I don't smoke but my son does collect them. Would make a good surprise gift for him.
