This is hands down, the most difficult blank I've ever made. Took 6 attempts before I was successful. Tolerances we're very tight and I don't think this type of blank will work on just any pen. The Knurl GT has enough meat for it to work. The copper looks rough, but it is under the finish and the pen is very smooth. The design is three sided. Woods are maple, bloodwood, and ebony.

Not metal, looks like it though. It is textured cricut permanent vinyl. It's about .005 thick, comes in many colors.

I really like the idea. Kind of like the inside-out Christmas ornament.
The same idea could be used for steampunk, stamps, labels, etc. glued to the tubing.

The vinyl is not applied to the tube. It's applied to a blank turned down so it's just under the final OD of the pen, but I think that would work too.

It looks like there's a fair height difference between the tube/vinyl and the wood. Any trouble filling that gap with (I presume) CA without it getting weird? I've had trouble with thick sections of CA getting cloudy or milky on me.
There's only about .010 between the OD of the pen and the vinyl so it wasn't to bad filling it with CA. Took several tries to get to that point. The first couple I tried putting in to much CA, I know very well what you mean by it getting "weird".
