The lucite looks good. Are you using the flash?
If possible use natural lighting when you can. I open the garage door 1/2 way to let light in. I use a tripod with the camera. I have a Sony digital. I found that by setting the EV to about -0.3 or 0.7 I got better pictures. I was told by photographer that you can get a sheer piece of material and drap it over your flash to diffuse the light if you cannot use natural lighting.
Just some ideas.

I like it and you did a nice job on the closed end. I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of adjusting this a bit for you so I could get a better look at the pen.
