I like this time of year, the week in between Christmas and new year. It's a the only time where i can relax a little and I don't have the constant feeling that I ought to be somewhere else.

I treated myself to a Bock no8 rhodium plated 14k gold nib just before Christmas. An early present for myself. For those not so familiar with fountain pen nibs you'll find they are often referred to by a number with no5, no6 and no8 tending to be most popular, but there are others. This number refers to the diameter, in mm, of the feed that the metal nib sits upon within the housing. To do so snugly the nib itself is curved to match the diameter and this determines the overall size of the nib. The last photo shows a no8 next to a no6 nib.

Bock no8 nibs are usually only available to me in solid gold or titanium and this is the first time I've been able to obtain a gold nib with a white metal appearance. They don't come cheap but they are impressive looking and write really nicely (I'll spare you photos of my scrawls).

I made myself this black oyster pen to fit it to. It's my straight sided model, so no step down from barrel to cap threads, which are m14 triple lead. I went for slightly larger threads to allow me to shape the section a little more than I would be able to with a 13mm equivalent. The diameter of the no8 nib housing is around 10mm so it gets a little tight in there.
I added some silver and black acrylic accents plus a chrome plated pocket clip.

And here it is. Comments and feedback welcome.

I'm off to attend a 3 day wedding in a really nice part of the Wye Valley tomorrow, so I'll wish you all a happy and healthy new year. See you in 2023.

Cheers
Ash

Another gorgeous and perfectly finished pen. The depth of the details in the black blank blows my mind. It is truly 3-Dimensional.

Thanks again for sharing your work Ash. Very inspirational.

Kudos for always keeping your pens well proportioned. The last side by side thread photo helps give perspective on how you had to size all components to compliment the no8. Great looking pen for you to keep.
