My wife and I were at Lowe's at noon today, picking up some lawn supplies. When we came out my wife says "it sounds like someone left a dog in their car!". I'm a little hard hearing but sure enough, there was the yapping of a dog. We spot a big, black Cadillac Esculade with the windows cracked about an inch on either side. Look inside, there's a little long haired Terrier in there yapping and jumping all over the car. Forgot to mention its 95º outside, what would you guess the temp was inside that black car?

Anyway, we wait around awhile, nobody comes near the car. Finally I can't stand it any longer. I go inside to the customer service desk and tell the clerk. By this time I'm getting pretty angry. It wouldn't have taken much for me to bust the window out of that car:mad:.

The clerk makes an announcement on the intercom, we wait around for sometime but no one comes out. We finally had to leave.

I'm still shaking I'm so angry. Thanks for letting me vent. The only thing worse would have been a child:eek:. There ought to be a law!

OMG! I can't believe some people! That poor dog. I wish I could lock those people in that car for hours with the windows cracked an inch. This just angers me!

I have called LEO's before and when they arrived, they did bust the window. Then waited for the owners to show up. They told us we could leave and it was not going to be pretty when the owner showed up. Did I mention it was a K9 Officer that had responded LOL

Just because some creep can afford a nice ride doesn't mean they are smart, Cruelty to animals is to me nearly the same as Child abuse. In Memphis there are usually 2 or 3 young children murdered each summer by parents leaving them in a car, and it's usually some real important thing like getting nails done or getting the hair done.

I would have called the police.

If I had seen the owner, I would have beat the... well, use your imagination.
There are a LOT of people that do NOT deserve the right to have a pet!!
Do not take an animal along with you if you don't intend to remain in the vehicle with them.

That same s*&t happens here in Houston during the summer! Except it is with children. I don't know how many times I've heard on the news someone left their precious defenseless child in their car at 80-100 deg. They say Oh I forgot! What! Oh that just eats me up!!

We have side stepped natural selection leaving 80% of the population stupid and 60% of those dangerously stupid. Now thanks to the instant gratification of everything from video games to the very machine on which I type we are removing any signs of empathy. Our society is so self involved we don't even trust our neighbors despite the lowest crime rates in world history! You don't even see kids outside anymore and when you do it's a mother daughter team in mini skirts short enough to tell what color panties they are wearing and matching Deja Vu jackets.......she was about 10! In part this is because we accept it instead of calling a whore a whore. Immoral behavior immoral........

I used to get so mad I would retreat back to my place on the mountain for weeks every time I spent much time around people. I have decided to focus on the good that is left in people, help the helpless when I can and laugh like hell at the stupidity of the rest........I would not have hesitated to take out that window!

I could not have said it better myself! Amen!

In the UK, you are permitted to smash a vehicle window if you believe an animal is in distress.
There was a recent TV program about an outdoor event of something else, but a few cops were patrolling the car park and came across several animal left in cars.
The best part was that they didn't make any attempt to go for a small cheap window. I'm absolutely positive that if there was a fire fighter engine at an event then first they would smash a window to release the animal, then they'd cut the roof off just to make sure:biggrin:

My grandfather once told me, after an incident we witnessed, that made him irate. " there really isn't much sense being an A--hole, unless you can prove it"

Don't remind us of STOOOPID people. We just closed escrow using the best Realtor we have ever experienced but the road to finding him was treacherous. Now we are dealing with a loan officer who works for Bank of America. We are purchasing a REO from their own asset department. Sheesh.

You should have told Lowe's to announce that someone had just smashed into their Caddy. I bet that would have got them out real fast.

I worked at a retail place. We called the police out when there was a pet in the car and it was over 90 degrees. There are laws! Call 'em next time.

I always have my cell in my pcket and my finger dial 911 just fine. Done it before, and unfortunately, I'm sure I'll have to do it again. And I stick around in the hopes that the cop gets to add assualt to the charges when I tell them what a moron they are.

At the risk of hijacking this thread: these are two VERY different scenarios:

1) Leaving a child/pet in the car because it'll just be a minute / it's not that hot / it's okay with the windows cracked and so on. That is, knowingly leaving a child or pet in the car. This is stupid and criminal.

2) Forgetting your child is in the back seat when you leave the car. If you think it could never happen to you... you're wrong. Read this Pulitzer Prize winning article (but have some tissues handy): http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/02/27/AR2009022701549.html

Back to the original topic: yes, this person is an idiot and it would have been worth calling the police. They'd almost certainly break the window and cite the owner, giving the dog some relief and the onlookers some glee.

Back when I worked retail for Sav-On Drugs, I can't count how many times I had to call the cops for children and pets left in the car on a hot day.

Made me so sick to see.

Only once did the cops get there before the parents/owners got back outside. They wasted no time smashing the windows to get the poor dog out. The owners were furious. The cops just stood there swinging handcuffs until the idiots got the hint.
