Best finish for oily woods

How do you finish pens made out of oily woods?

Some leave them "natural" w/o any finish, I still use CA.

Enduro and CA will stick to oily woods. Some people rub them with denatured alcohol before applying the finish. I have no experience with laquers but I guess they should work fine too...

i like to use CA, i wouldn't recommend using DNA though, try acetone or CA accelerator to cut the oil down before you apply the CA finish.

I'm still yet to try the CA or CA/BLO finish, but I made a cocobolo bottle stopper and I tell you this...DO NOT USE POLYURETHENE!!! It was still tacky after 5 days. I cleaned it with mineral spirits then finished with the carnuba then ren-wax, worked for me!!!

We have a very oily native cypress here in Oz and the best sealer to use on these types of timber is a shellac based sanding sealer. The one I use is Ubeaut Sanding Sealer, which I believe is also availble on the other side of the pond, if not I'm sure people like Mylands and Minwax make something similar. After one or two coats of the shellac based sanding sealer you can use your normal finishing system.

Ron, which poly did you use? I would be careful with BLO on oily wood. Has anybody made it work? Or is straight CA required.
