After watching the show Barry Gross did the other day I was wondering about the Behlen's Wood Turner's Finish he used. Does it stand up to daily use like a CA finish or does it come off with use? I assume it is some kind of laquer based product, but not sure.
Thanks

Hey Shawn,

Woodturners finish in my opinion a great finish, it works on bowls, plates other items like that. You can use it on a pen, but over time it can or cant wear off. I also use unaxol for my pens with great results too. use what you think is best and go from there, any other questions, feel free to ask

Behlens Woodturner's Finish is a lacquer-based friction finish - lacquer plus shellac. It will produce a finish which is more durable than shellac, but less durable than most lacquers. While I am certain it works for some folks, I would advise against its use on pens. They take quite a beating.

Is it OK to discuss name-brands, if no one here sells them???

It's still advertising, isn't it???

Should we eliminate this???

I think it would be very difficult to have any meaningful discussion about finish without using brand names :)

I don't really like to use the finish on my pens. The gloss is really a lot less than Enduro, CA or lacquer. It does hold to some extend but isn't something I would compare to, for example, CA. I use it mostly for slimline, apprentice kits when I don't want to spend too much time finishing a "cheap" pen.

It ages very well tho and doesn't become ugly with time. It just goes away.
